Initial salary placement will be determined by the Office of Human Resources in accordance with the faculty collective bargaining agreement and is not negotiable. The candidate selected for employment will be required to provide the following: official transcripts and verification of experience prior to the first duty day, identification and employment eligibility as outlined in the Immigration Reform and Control Act, fingerprints and required medical certification pursuant to statue. NOCCCD will not sponsor any visa applications. The District may choose to fill one or more positions from this recruitment within the same fiscal year or 8 months, whichever is longer. Job Description

Teach students with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities who attend the North Orange Continuing Education (NOCE), Regional Center-funded Work Independence Self-Advocacy Education (WISE) Program in practical life competences such as employment, cooking, consumer, and interpersonal skills.

Provide instruction in the classroom and in the community (field trips).

Provide work direction to adjunct instructors, instructional assistants, and hourly support staff.

Follow Regional Center guidelines and required regulations.

Develop and maintain Student Academic Accommodation Plans and document progress for each student.

Collaborate with DSS instructors, counselors and staff on strategies to serve students effectively, including the development of Student Success Agreements and completion of Incident Reports.

Work directly with DSS staff relative to student placement and progress.

Participate in curriculum development and serve on department, division, college and district committees as necessary to maintain and improve the instructional program; participate in appropriate professional development activities.

Participate in co-curricular activities, including planning, implementing, and teaching in special programs designed to support student success.

Participate in the formulation of Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) and the Student Learning Outcomes assessment cycle.

Maintain formal office and campus hours; participate in department and division meetings.

Maintain current knowledge of instructional methods and new technologies pertinent to areas of assignment; learn and apply emerging technologies and advances (e.g., computer software applications) as necessary to perform duties in an efficient, organized and timely manner.

Teach scheduled classes and perform related duties as assigned, including timely compliance with clerical and administrative responsibilities; comply with district, college and division policies in the performance of duties.

Instruct and assist in the growth and success of a diverse population of students through careful preparation of course materials, effective teaching methodologies and informed critical feedback on assignments and discussions.

Work cooperatively with staff and students.

Evening and/or Saturday assignments may be required as part of the regular contract.

Special Requirements

The award of all degrees must be verifiable on a legible transcript. If degree award date is not posted on transcript your application will be deemed incomplete and removed from consideration.

Minimum Qualifications

A master’s degree, or equivalent foreign degree, in the category of disability, special education, education, psychology, educational psychology, or rehabilitation counseling;

AND

Fifteen semester units of upper division or graduate study in the area of disability, to include, but not be limited to: learning disabilities, developmental disabilities, deaf and hearing impaired, physical disabilities, or adapted computer technology;

OR

A bachelor’s degree with any of the following majors: education of students with specific or multiple disabilities; special education; psychology; physical education with an emphasis in adaptive physical education; communicative disorders; rehabilitation; computer-based education; other computer-related majors which include course work on adapted or assistive computer technology for students with disabilities; other majors related to providing specialized instruction or services to persons with disabilities;

OR

An associate degree with one of the majors specified above;

AND

Four (4) years of experience providing specialized instruction or services to persons in the disability category or categories being served.

OR

The equivalent. Equivalent qualifications may include related education, training, employment and professional experience that would be equal to the required degree(s) and experience in this field as determined by the District Equivalency Committee.

Commitment to diversity. All applicants must have demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff.

Desirable Qualifications

Master’s degree in special education, psychology, rehabilitation, and computer-related majors which include course work on adapted or assistive computer technology for students with disabilities.

Two (2) or more years teaching experience in an educational environment in the areas of assistive computer technology, independent living skills, community integration, and vocational preparation.

Experience working effectively with, and providing oversight of, support staff; and collaborating with community partners.

Knowledge and competency in working with students with disabilities including learning disabilities, hearing impaired, mental health; emphasis in working with students with ID and ASD.

Experience in the development of course materials, curriculum, student assessments and student success plans (behavior plans) for students with disabilities.

Knowledge and experience in the uses of assistive technology as it pertains to serving students with disabilities.

Knowledge of Federal and State requirements for serving individuals with disabilities.

Working Conditions

North Orange Continuing Education (NOCE) is the fourth largest community college-based continuing education institution in California. Students enroll in NOCE’s noncredit programs to enhance basic skills, and employable skills and/or prepare for credit courses, living independently, and civic participation. Noncredit programs offered at NOCE include adult basic skills (high school diploma and literacy programs), English as a second language, U.S. citizenship, parenting, older adults, short-term vocational, and programs for adults with disabilities. In addition, NOCE offers a wide selection of community services courses for a small tuition fee including Kids’ College and Teen Program, fitness, fine arts, home decorative arts, business skills, and financial planning.

Open to all community members interested in making positive changes in their lives, the majority of NOCE classes are state-supported. Over 800 courses are taught each quarterly term, serving 31,000 students annually ranging from preschoolers to seniors. In 2016/17, NOCE issued 253 high school diplomas and 448 short-term vocational career certificates. NOCE has three center locations in Anaheim, Cypress, and Wilshire (Fullerton) as well as over 150 off-site community locations in partnership with local education agencies and municipalities. NOCE’s Student Success and Support Program provides orientation, assessment, and counseling components while also offering workshops to support students in the area of college transition, financial aid basics, career exploration, resume development, and interviewing techniques.
